Classic Trimphone Telephone - professionally restored, and supplied with our peace of mind guaranteeOwn a Classic Piece of British Design – A Rare Brown & Cream Trimphone
(the phone you will receive is the one shown in the photos above)
This beautifully restored GPO Trimphone is in excellent working condition and fully wired for use. It features a sleek brown base with a cream handset and matching curly cord, a timeless colour combination that adds to its vintage appeal. There is slight discolouration of the handset, which is normal for a Trimphone of this age and part of its authentic character.
Designed for the GPO in 1966 by Martin Rowlands, the Trimphone (Tone Ring Illuminator Model) was a futuristic and lightweight alternative to traditional rotary dial telephones. It became famous for its much-imitated electronic warble ringer, a distinctive sound with 2 volume settings (see dial on side) that set it apart from other phones of the era. With its sleek, modern design and illuminated dial, it quickly became a sought-after status symbol in British homes and offices.
Today, Trimphones are becoming increasingly rare, making them highly collectible among our traditional telephone range.

The phone for sale on this page, known as the Phoenixphone, represents the later stage in the evolution of the iconic Trimphone. Following its initial success, the Phoenixphone Campaign introduced a fresh iteration of the Trimphone, offering a variety of alternative colour options. The first collection, released around 1982, was called the Snowdon Collection and featured six two-tone color combinations, selected by leading design consultants. These phones were available in both dial and press-button versions, with some sources suggesting that Lord Snowdon played a role in the color choices. The Phoenixphone is considered the final reincarnation of the classic Trimphone, marking an exciting chapter in its long history.
Our old dial phones are fully functional for incoming calls, including the classic bell ring, on both digital and analogue telephone lines. However, for outgoing calls, the phone requires an analogue line that supports pulse dialling, which is being phased out. This typically isn’t an issue, as most owners use these telephones for incoming calls only. If you’d like to make outgoing calls, you can easily resolve this by purchasing a pulse-to-tone converter, such as the Dialgizmo, Dial-A-Tone or Rotatone. This device converts the phone's pulse signals into tone signals, making it compatible with modern systems.
