The SM4000 Smith Machine is a high performance Smith training
system, ideal for weight training in a serious home gym,
used by both beginners and more experienced fitness enthusiasts
alike. At the heart of the SM4000 is a barbell that is constrained
to move only vertically upwards and downwards on runners
(offset by 7 degrees from the vertical to optimize performance).
Behind each runner is a series of slots on which the barbell
can be hooked. When using the Marcy SM4000, the barbell
cannot fall forwards, backwards or sideways, which is why
Smith Machines are generally considered safer to use than
ordinary barbells on their own. Our range of Smith Machines

the SM4000 is ergonomically designed to complement the
body's natural movements. Features include pec deck, foot
brace for seated row, 6x Olympic storage pegs, lat bar,
tricep rope, shiver bar, ankle strap, single handle &
chromed V bar. Also included are a separate utility bench
with arm curl pad & leg developer.

Exercises using a Smith Machine:
The Smith machine can be used for any barbell exercise in which the barbell moves
vertically up and down, such as the squat or the bench press. It is not suitable
for exercises in which the barbell moves in an arc, such as the biceps curl, however
a large number of exersices are possible on our Marcy machines, which have a number
of extras built around a Smith machine core. The Marcy SM4000, for example, is
practically a multigym for weight training enthusiasts, and the manufacturer lists

different exercises, which you can view by cllcking the image on the right.
An obvious difference between our Multigym
Range and our Smith Machines is that, while the multigyms come with their
own weigh stacks, the Smith Machines do not. Smith Machines are made to work with
dumbell-type weights that you may have already purchased. Our Marcy Smith Machines
are compatible with both Olympic and Standard dumbell weights.
