Shut the box is a real favourite of ours, and this special version from Jaques is particulary worth buying, owing to its superior construction in solid mahogany, and the inclusion of cards and dice to make a games compendium. The traditional game of shut the box is definitely the best, though. Shut the Box uses two dice and a special wooden playing tray. The tray features the numbers 1 - 9 in a row, each of which has a hinged or sliding cover. A turn involves repeatedly throwing the dice and shutting or covering a number or pair of numbers every throw. The turn ends when no numbers can be covered upon the throw of the dice at which point the player's total is calculated. The overriding goal is to completely cover all numbers or "shut the box" which results in the best possible score of zero.

Jaques original design, dating from over 100 years ago. Players take turns flick disks on a board, trying to score points by attaining central regions. Contact with the other teams' pieces must be made in order for the disk to remain on the board afterwards. Although the game uses quite a bit of skill to flick the disks, there's a very significant strategy element to the game. There are many different variants and rules, as this game is very old and has had many different incarnations over the years. Size: 70 x 70cm.

The is the indoor version of the traditional game of quoits, hand crafted with a solid mahogonay frames and the original bright 1950s pattern. Indoor quoits was played often around Wales and the West midlands. The Jaques game is a good-quality version of this tradional game, and comes complete with a set of 4 bonded 2-colour quoits and full rules. Size: 47 x 47cm.

The Jaques board is 5 feet long, and constructed using polished beech. 30 solid hardwood discs are also supplied, making this a very good set to buy, and one that will last in your family for generations. Each player has 3 turns to slide the 30 discs one at a time through the scoring gates. During the first turn, all 30 discs are used, but during the 2nd and 3rd turns, only the discs that haven't passed through the scoring gates are used. The score for each disc that passes through a gate is the value on the gate (1-4)Complete sets of 1 disk in each of the 4 compartments are worth double. A game fun game of skill for all the family.
