SKY WATCHER HIGH PERFORMANCE TELESCOPE
The highly-acclaimed Skymax-127 Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope

The new SupaTrak™ Auto-Tracking Alt-Azimuth Mount is a
heavier-duty version of the standard Auto-Tracking mount,
designed to carry heavier telescopes. This mounting, with
its built-in dual-axis multi-speed Servo motors is ideal
for both Astronomical & Terrestrial use.
In Astronomical mode, after following the simple set-up
procedure, the mount is capable of tracking astronomical
objects automatically. The fully motorised mount is convenient,

REVIEW of the Skymax 127 SupaTrak™
Telescope: ”This is one of the jewels in the
Sky-Watcher crown. It's large enough to produce richly detailed,
high-contrast lunar and planetary images…. The Skymax-127
packs a performance punch with a relatively short cool-down
time….For daytime terrestrial use, the instrument is quite
capable of focusing down to 8 metres….The new SupaTrak™
mount shares more than a passing resemblance to the Celestron
SLT, but the somewhat quieter and heavier duty SupaTrak
sports a more robust Vixen-style dovetail clamp…. I found
that the SupaTrak was capable of following a celestial object
at high magnifications for tens of minutes before slowly
drifting out of the field of view, which is perfectly adequate
for visual use or simple webcam imaging…. If you are looking
for an intuitive and far less intimidating user experience
than that offered by cheaper GoTo mounts, the SupaTrak is

Choosing a Telescope: There are two main categories
of telescope: Refractors and Reflectors. Refractors, use
two or more lenses to collect and focus the light from an
object to the eye of the observer, and can trace their design
back to the telescopes of Galileo’s era. Reflectors
(like the one shown on this page), developed by Isaac Newton
in the 17th century, use mirrors to focus the light. As
magnifications increase, impurities in the glass of lenses
can cause distortion (commonly a “rainbow-like” halo around
objects) requiring expensive and difficult treatments and
coatings to correct. Reflectors telescopes avoid this problem,
and are generally cheaper to manufacture for a given sized
aperture (the main lens or mirror used to catch the incoming
light). As a result, most high-performance optical telescopes,
including the Hubble Space Telescope, are reflector designs.
SKY-WATCHER DELUXE MIRROR COATINGS: Most reflectors
today usually have a coat of aluminium as the mirror surface
and then an overcoat of silicon monoxide or silicon dioxide
to protect it. Silicon dioxide produces a much more durable
coat than silicon monoxide but requires specialized equipment
to apply it and is therefore more expensive. Protection
is needed, because in most reflectors, the mirror is open
to the elements and deterioration of the reflective layer
reduces the resolution of the telescope. ALL Sky-Watcher
reflectors are Multi-Coated with Silicon Dioxide as standard
for Optimum Durability and Long Term Performance.
Please note: Viewing the sun can cause permanent eye
damage. Do not view the sun with the Telescope, Finderscope
or even with the naked eye. To observe the sun, it is
best to project the view onto a piece of white card (see
intsruction booklet).
