The Club Tournament is probably our favourite table - it
not only performs exceptionally well, it is also a true
design classic that exemplifies Jaques historical participation
in the development of the game. The Club Tournament table
tennis table from Jaques is carefully made by Jaques craftsmen,
now England's only table makers, as replicas of the original
Jaques tables selected for the first national championships
of the early 1900s. Jaques is synonymous with quality table
tennis equipment. In 1902 John Jaques III invented the revolutionary
game of 'Gossima', known also as 'Ping-Pong' and which was
later renamed 'Table Tennis'. This version of lawn tennis,
played on a table, soared in popularity nationwide and saw
the first championships grow worldwide, with China playing
it as a national sport. In the past one hundred years, Jaques
have become renowned for table tennis equipment, with a
range of tables used at world championships, youth clubs,
schools and homes.
