A good croquet set will often become a treasured family
heirloom, enjoyed by your children, and your childrens'
children. Here we present the FIVE most popular SUPERIOR
GARDEN SETS in the Jaques croquet range. In contrast to
our standard
garden sets, our superior garden croquet sets introduce
better mallets with brass rings and, in some instances,
the higher-quality Hampton croquet hoops. All superior garden
sets are full size, include corner flags, and contain Challenge
croquet balls which, although lighter in weight, are scientifically
formulated to give a "feel" in play which closely
resembles the playing characteristics of more expensive
sets. The Cheltenham 6-player Set
is ideal for larger families and is equipped brass-ringed
mallets and the heavy-gauge Hampton hoops. The Oxford
Croquet Set is the lowest-priced set with the longer-lasting
brass-ringed mallets. The Edenbridge
6 Player Family set includes 2 intermediate mallets for
younger players, and the 4 other mallets are made of a hardwood
prime English ash. Finally, our Woodstock Croquet
Set is the lowest-price set containing the superior hardwood
mallets. Note: Jaques have now discontinued the Ascot Croquet
Set. We also sell George
Wood Croquet Sets, which represent high quality at an
affordable price - well worth a look! |
Jaques is synonymous with quality croquet sets. John Jaques
II won a place in sporting history, and a Gold Medal for
introducing croquet into England at the Great Exhibition
in 1851. His display there attracted such wide attention
that the game speedily became the vogue, not only here but
in Europe and throughout the British Empire. It was especially
popular in India, reportedly played by The Viceroy himself
with a solid ivory mallet, probably made by Jaques as part
of their finest set. The first national croquet headquarters
was the Wimbledon All England Croquet Club (later to become
the Wimbledon All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club).
